The hotel

The Dixon, Tower Bridge, a boutique style hotel part of Autograph Collection Hotels opened its doors in late 2018. Taking center stage in the Tower Bridge neighborhood on Tooley Street, The Dixon, Tower Bridge, Autograph Collection is the new cultural hub for the capital’s center of artistic activity.

  • Named after John Dixon Butler, the architect who originally constructed the building in 1905 as a Magistrates Court and police station, the hotel takes inspiration from the area’s vibrant cultural heritage, while also capturing its new wave of creative cool.
  • The 193 rooms will redefine the traditional boutique hotel by seamlessly incorporating the local neighborhood's culture through an artful mix of heritage design. Think simple brickwork, tall windows and modern furniture from British designers that will sit alongside more classic pieces, whilst curated artworks from local artists will hang on the walls.
  • Cleverly reflecting the buildings purpose as a courtroom, the restaurant will serve as a neighborhood oasis that will welcome not only hotel guests but also the local trade.

Key responsibilities

Keeping our hotel running smoothly is vital to our guest's experience – working in Maintenance, you’ll keep everything looking amazing and running like clockwork. You’ll have good troubleshooting skills to resolve jobs that arise, and have enthusiasm to complete simple repairs along with being forward-thinking for the next day. With naturally high standards to support your work, you’ll approach every task with devotion and pride.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Proven practical skills in areas such as carpentry, decorating and plumbing
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Knowledge of how common electrical and mechanical items work and how to repair them
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools and other maintenance and safety equipment
  • Inspecting, fixing, and maintaining equipment and machinery
  • Completing scheduled maintenance tasks
  • Conducting preventative maintenance including descaling shower heads and cleaning AC Filters.
  • Conducting all the building checks
  • Delivering excellent customer service
  • Liaising with contractors to ensure that they complete projects on time
  • Painting and decorating or conducting repairs to flooring and other fittings
  • Ensuring rooms are maintained and fully equipped
  • Flexible with working times, this role includes working in the evening times including weekends.

About you

  • You’ll have experience of at least one year in maintenance or repair work
  • Knowledge of hand tools - you’ll also have a working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrics and preventative maintenance procedures, with recognised qualifications where appropriate
  • A level of fitness – you’ll be on your feet most of the day, and will need to bend and kneel a lot
  • Great communication and customer service skills, you’ll be warm, welcoming and easy to talk to
  • Ability to work independently with a cooperative spirit when working with peers
