Job Description
This is a brand new, exciting post and is an opportunity for an occupational therapist to work alongside a physiotherapist, providing a rapid response as part of the multidisciplinary team a in the Specialist Parkinson's Service in Derby.
To work as a part of the specialist multi-disciplinary Parkinson's service.
The post is to provide a rapid response service to those patients who are in hospital in order to facilitate discharge, and also to carry out home visits for those at home who are in crisis with the aim of prevent admission. Some patients may be seen as urgent outpatients.
The Derby Parkinson's team is one of only two Parkinson’s Foundation Centers of Excellence in Britain, working to improve lives for People with Parkinson's.
Spread over two sites in Derby our team consists of Consultants in Medicine of the Elderly and Neurology, Parkinson's Disease Specialist Nurses, a Specialist clinical fellow in Parkinson's.
In addition we also have a Specialist Therapy team, including Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Dietitian, Nursing and Psychology.
To use specialist skills to perform advanced assessment of patients with Parkinson's in hospital and at home with diverse presentations and complex physical, cognitive, psychological and social needs.
To provide specialist advice to therapists and other staff on inpatient wards regarding the management of patients with Parkinson's.
To develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes to patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.
To supervise and educate other members of staff and students.
Identify equipment needs to support independence and maintain safety at home.
Provide out-patient follow up therapy to reduce admissions to hospital.
Offer advice to inpatient therapists regarding the management of Parkinson's and strategies to reduce length of stay in hospital.
Experience of working with people with Parkinson’s is essential but training for this role will be offered. There are also many CPD opportunities for the team.
