Permanent SEND Teaching Assistant Level 3
The Governors of Deepdale Community Primary School are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant (Level 3) to support the individual learning needs of SEND pupils in a specialist classroom and also across the school. The successful candidate will work with pupils with varying needs across the school. The role will differ depending on the current cohort and the support needed by the SEN children. This is a permanent position.
The successful candidate will:
- be able to demonstrate experience of working with children with Autism/ASD
- be able to work collaboratively with class teachers and teaching assistants to establish an appropriate learning environment for pupils who require a curriculum that focuses upon early development skills
- have the experience and flexibility to work across a range of year groups<
- have the ability to work as part of a team
- be prepared to learn how to use gesture, symbols and pictures, real objects and basic Makaton signs, to support language understanding
- be prepared to learn how to be ‘the most interesting thing in the room’ and use high impact light up and noisy toys to gain the attention of pupils with Autism
- be prepared to learn about sensory regulation and then support an environment suitable for pupils with sensory regulation needs
- implement targeted learning plans and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to the pupils’ responses/needs
- have a patient, positive and caring attitude
- have a commitment to developing his/her professional skills

Deepdale Community Primary School is strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety of children and undertakes a rigorous vetting procedure. Successful applicants will be required to obtain an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure from the DBS and a range of other recruitment checks will be undertaken..

Applicants who are successful at the shortlisting stage, will attend a pre-arranged visit to school lasting approximately 1 hour. During the visit, applicants will have the chance to interact and engage in learning activities with our SEN children within their familiar environments. Applicants will not need to prepare any activities for this. In addition, they will meet members of our SEN team, and be given a tour of the school.
