About the Role

The Tollgate Practice has an opportunity, due to the promotion of current team members, for a prescription clerk/administrator to join our busy team. This role is offered for approximately 25 hours per week but hours can be negotiated for the right candidate.

The main responsibilities of the role include:
  • Ensuring that requests for repeat prescriptions are actioned within 72 hours. This includes checking email requests and involves a rota system to cover the collection and drop off of all prescriptions.
  • Responding to all queries and requests from chemists, nursing homes and district nurses, regarding the issue of prescriptions.
  • Keeping repeat prescription information up-to-date in the patient journal, such as letters and doctors' requests.
  • Sending out review letters.
  • Organising blood tests (through ICE system) or blood pressure checks for patients, relevant to their prescribing needs.
  • Prescribing Incentive Scheme – issue reports and letters, working around any guidelines issued to ensure budget reductions where possible.
  • Medicine management – liaise and discuss any enquires or queries raised by the clinical team.
  • General ad hoc administration work and reception cover as required.
  • Flexibility to cover other areas when required – multi-skill mix.
  • Keep up-to-date with all prescribing guidelines and protocols, relevant to the position.

About the Candidate

The ideal candidate will:

  • possess experience of working in a community pharmacy or GP practice.
  • demonstrate attention to detail.
  • be flexible, with a positive attitude.
  • demonstrate good team working and communication skills.
  • demonstrate an excellent standard of patient care.

General practice experience and knowledge of SystmOne would be an advantage.

About Us

The successful applicant will be warmly welcomed to our professional and caring team at The Tollgate Practice in Stanway. We are an independent, medium-sized practice, serving a patient population of just over 9,000. We work from our modern purpose-built premises in Stanway, Colchester and pride ourselves on our commitment not only to our patients but also to the welfare and progression of our staff.

We understand that it can be rather daunting starting a new job and therefore our supportive team will always be on hand to provide guidance and assistance if required. The team is managed by a practice manager and a deputy practice manager who are always on hand to assist the smooth running of the practice. Our administration manager, provides support and guidance to our non-clinical team and we have a full complement of secretaries, administrators, receptionists and coders.

We have 2 GP partners, 7 (long-term) locum GPs, 1 advanced nurse practitioner, 3 practice nurses and 2 health care assistants. We also have two pharmacists and a full team of ARRS staff to complete our team. We have 2 GP registrars training at the practice at all times, and their support and guidance is provided by Dr Abeysundara, our senior partner.
