Job Description

YMCA Newark & Sherwood are looking for a freelance Health & Fitness Coach to join our team to deliver Strength and Conditioning classes in our state of the art, inclusive gym based at the Community & Activity Village.

Our spacious, well equipped and fully-inclusive fitness area is located at the heart of the YMCA Village.

Designed as an inclusive space that's not like a regular gym, we have built a community of like-minded individuals who are all on their own personal health and fitness journey.

You will form part of the Coaching team to deliver these classes filled with expertise, motivation and passion.

We are looking for someone to deliver one or all of these available sessions on our current timetable:

Tuesday - 9.30am

Thursday - 5.30 or 6.30pm

Saturday - 9.30 or 10.30am

Job Purpose

  • Responsible for the delivery of a variety of high-quality strength & conditioning classes to a wide range of members.
  • Ensure the provision of excellent Customer Service and Safe Operation of the Centre.
  • Additional hours included within this role for administrative responsibilities, helping with marketing and promotion, member engagement and on-boarding.
  • Option to be able to deliver PT sessions.

Your goals will be to:

  • Deliver strength & conditioning classes to members following the coach's manual.
  • Effectively communicate and coach a variety of skills and movements to a wide range of audiences.
  • Create a friendly, fun & inclusive training environment for all members.
  • Ensure the safe delivery of classes and that all H&S protocols are followed.

About You

Above all else, you understand and are motivated by the commitment to and enjoyment of physical fitness as part of a healthy lifestyle. You will have practical experience of working is a functional fitness gym, delivering functional fitness classes and personal training to a wide range of members, including perhaps members with disabilities, as well as children and young adults.

You will understand how to implement safe practices in a gym setting and will hold a minimum Level 3 Personal Training qualification.

You must be confident and comfortable coaching in front of large classes; you will have excellent communication skills, are friendly and approachable, and able to deliver sessions with enthusiasm and motivation.

Whilst comfortable working on your own, you also need to be able to contribute to the team effort, and have the ability to connect with and understand the needs of people from diverse cultural, social and racial backgrounds.

As our timetable grows, there may be the opportuniyy to take on more classes or even join us on a permanent basis should you wish.
