We are recruiting for an Assistant Payroll Manager to be responsible for all payroll processes, supporting the Payroll Manager. You will take on the management of employee data and payroll processing to ensure our employees are paid correctly and on time. You will assist in the day to day running of the payroll team. Developing the team on both an individual and team wide basis.


As Assistant Payroll Manager you will be accountable for:

  • Managing escalated pay queries from all depots/hubs and employees.
  • Providing training to new team members on payroll processes and company policy and work with Payroll Manager to develop and train team members on legislation.
  • Ability to process end to end payroll with strong knowledge in all aspects of payroll processing.
  • Providing information and answering questions about payroll related matters to line managers and employees.
  • Issuing payslips and managing advance payments.
  • Providing administrative assistance with reporting for Finance.
  • Processing payroll accurately within Cascade and liaising with relevant stakeholders to ensure the data is correct.
  • Ensuring the HRPayroll Inbox is maintained, and queries answered within the SLA’s.
  • Pension administration tasks including Auto Enrolment.
  • Act as point of contact with HMRC and answer related queries.
  • Advise on Universal Credit Queries and HMRC information requests.


To be successful in this role you will require the following…

  • Currently working in a busy, large scale payroll environment.
  • Experience managing a team is essential, managing a team of payroll professionals is ideal.
  • End to end payroll knowledge and complete knowledge of payroll legislation.
  • Able to manually calculate payable hours, commissions, bonuses, tax deductions, and deductions accurately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, pivot tables and macros.
  • Proficiency in Cascade Payroll and HR is ideal but not essential.
