Could you rise to the challenge of being part of a busy, award-winning press office team at a Russell Group university? If you’re a storyteller at heart with a passion for news and social media, then we would love to hear from you.
We're seeking an experienced communications professional to work with our talented team for 12 months covering the maternity leave of our Media Relations Manager for the Faculty of Social Sciences. In this exciting role, you would work directly with university academics in the faculty to shine a light on world-leading research and investigate some of society’s most pressing problems, from modern slavery to climate change. With a diverse range of topics to get your teeth into, you will need a flair for accurately translating complex and technical information into stories that pack a punch and grab the headlines. You’ll have the tools of the trade to produce exciting and engaging digital content to enhance these stories across our external news and social media channels.
As a guardian of the university’s global reputation, you will demonstrate excellent influencing skills when working with colleagues at all levels across the institution and in building trusted relationships with regional, national and international print, broadcast and online media.
To be successful in this role, you will have a proven track record in working in a professional news environment or in an established media and public relations agency working regularly with journalists, with demonstrable experience of planning, implementing and measuring communications/PR strategies and programmes to support strategic objectives. Previous experience of working in social affairs-related communications would be advantageous.
At the University of Nottingham, we are committed to providing generous employment packages whilst supporting the well-being of our staff to help them reach their full potential. As a university employee, you will have an excellent choice of benefits and rewards, including access to fitness and health facilities, staff discounts and travel schemes, along with 30 days' holiday allowance and a highly attractive pension scheme.
This role is available on a fixed-term basis for a period of 12 months. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours per week). Job share arrangements may be considered. The university supports hybrid working and there is an expectation that you will spend around 60% of your time on campus. Arrangements can be agreed locally with your line manager.
Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Emma Thorne, email EMMA.THORNE@NOTTINGHAM.AC.UK. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
