City of York Council need a highly motivated Barrister Solicitor to assist our Litigation Team.

You will work mainly on National Trading Standards funded prosecution cases conducted by the Council.

You will be required to advise on investigation processes, conduct pre charge advice, act as the reviewing lawyer in prosecution proceedings and conduct confiscation and POCA proceedings. You will also be required to advise the Council, instruct and consult with Counsel and provide legal and policy advice to the Council’s Monitoring Officer and Legal Services Manager. You may also be responsible for negotiating settlements and advising the Council on the best course of action in any particular case.

You may also be required to support the Litigation team in their conduct of proceedings in the Tribunals, Magistrates Court and County Court. The team conducts a wide variety of litigation including employment disputes, appeals to the First Tier Tribunals, prosecutions in the criminal courts, civil applications in the criminal courts, possession proceedings injunctions, debt recovery ASB and general housing matters.

You will need to have a high degree of creativity and innovation to deal with a wide range of work covered by the litigation team.
