Background
The post-holder will lead and develop the involvement of young people in the Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre and will be responsible for further developing existing youth involvement activity. Alongside Birmingham and Oxford, other sites in the BRC theme include Bradford, Liverpool, Reading, and York Over 5 years, we aim to build an active and engaged national PPI network of young people and parents/carers, supporting and facilitating young people to develop roles in PPI and co-production in mental health . This role requires the post-holder to build and maintain excellent relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters where necessary, and they should be committed to equal opportunities. Ideally the successful candidate will have lived experience of mental health difficulties or of supporting someone with mental health difficulties.
The post-holder will develop, support, and facilitate various methods for involving young people and their families in the work of the BRC so that their input shapes the activities of the Mental Health in Development theme. This will be achieved in partnership with young people and will also draw on good practice in involving the public in research.
Role Summary
The post holder will work collaboratively and provide essential liaison to support the active involvement of children, young people and young adults, and parents/carers. The role will involve working closely with researchers from across the Mental Health Development theme in Birmingham, Reading, Oxford and beyond. In particular, the research team led by Dr Anna Lavis and Prof Kam Bhui have an exciting programme of work with a focus on innovation in involvement and research methods that prioritise experiences of children, young people and their families. The role will also involve collaborating with other PPI facilitators, particularly in Oxford and in the University’s Institute for Mental Health, and will report directly to the School of Psychology Operations Manager. The post-holder will deal with people at all levels of University staff and external affiliates of the IMH.
