Department Overview
As a direct result of Tech Transformation 2025, Technology are looking to reimagine its approach to Strategic Supplier Management and as such this new capability is part of the newly created Technology Operations team. A team that delivers strategic cross cutting capabilities needed to lead a technology organisation effectively, including demand management, supplier management, financial governance and people and talent.

Job description
This is a new role, focused on management of the commercial relationships with the “Gold” suppliers in Technology, with the objectives of making sure the contract is executed properly and fairly for both parties. Gold suppliers are those of critical importance, and very high value. This will be a small but strategically important team for the Technology Leadership Team, seeking to gain more value from suppliers over the longer term. This role will help manage on or two Gold relationships and report to the lead of the function, operating with relevant stakeholders across the Bank. The primary focus of the role is:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance against contractual landscape, incl. tracking performance and delivery across Technology (15%)
  • Highlight and deliver opportunities which brings additional value, innovation or enables a stronger relationship (30%)
  • Assisting Finance with building financial profiles to assist Budget controls. (20%)
  • Build and manage the appropriate level of relationship with our suppliers. (35%)

Role Requirements
Minimum Essential Criteria

  • This role requires established expertise in strategic supplier management, experience of 5 years working in supplier management and with large technology suppliers.
  • Comfortable dealing with both senior stakeholders and executive level programme management.
  • Good collaboration skills, bringing together the needs and requirements from Bank business customers, with the supplier capabilities and strategic direction
  • The Strategic commercial manager will need to understand the Business context in which the supplier services are being used or applied, to represent the business areas needs whilst also ensuring we get the best outcome from the supplier.
  • An ability to understand the risks associated with the contractual delivery of the services that have been procured and to work with the supplier and the Bank to manage/minimise these
  • Experience working in Technology Commercial functions, or another similar roles, such as Technology Category Management or Technology Contracts Management
  • The ability to build relationships to get the best out of suppliers.
  • An ability to demonstrate a track record in managing a range of Technology contracts with strong functional knowledge of the technology provision.
  • Comfortable communicating with key colleagues, up to a senior level, with effective influencing skills

Desirable Criteria
  • Ability to convey complex or technical information at the right level so that it is understood.
  • Ensure Architecture teams are engaging potential suppliers in alignment to sourcing process.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Public Procurement Processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Transactional Processes within a Financial Institution.
  • Experience of business case creation, management and delivery which demonstrates new ways of thinking.

Salary and Benefits Information

This specific role offers a base salary of between £61,770 - £78, 300 per annum (depending on skills and experience) on a full-time basis. We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate.

In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:

  • A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
  • A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
  • A 7% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits. (Note that from April 2023 and for the Benefits year 2023/24, this will increase to 8%)
  • 26 days’ annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.
  • Private medical insurance and income protection.

National Security Vetting Process

Employment in this role will be subject to the National Security Vetting clearance process (and typically can take between 6 to 12 weeks post offer) and the passing of additional Bank security checks in accordance with the Bank policy.
