Job Description

TRUCK DISPATCHER

The Truck Dispatcher is responsible for overseeing the scheduling and dispatching of our fleet of trucks. In this position, you will work closely with drivers, customers and other team member to ensure timely delivery of products. You will also be expected to maintain accurate records, monitor driver performance and resolve any issues that may arise during the transportation process. A commercial driver’s license with medical card is recommended. Must have and maintain a clean driving record and pass a drug and alcohol test.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and schedule the delivery of products and materials to customers.
  • Monitor and track shipments to ensure timely delivery.
  • Communicate with drivers to ensure they have necessary information and resources to complete their deliveries.
  • Plan and optimize routes to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.
  • Resolve any issues or delays that may arise during transport.
  • Maintain accurate records of shipments and deliveries.
  • Ensure all billing is correct and current (turned in a timely manner).
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing any concerns or questions related to shipments.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Manage and oversee a team of drivers and logistics personal.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve logistics processes to increase efficiency and productivity.

Skills and qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Commercial Driver’s License recommended.
  • Ability to make deliveries in a team environment.
  • Must pass drug and alcohol test.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in dispatching.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state trucking rules and regulations.
  • Strong problem solving and math skills.
  • Ability to work collectively in a team environment with other co-workers and managers as well as on own.
  • Willingness to do other work as needed, including heavy labor.
  • Willingness to work outside in all weather extremes.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including swing shift, graveyard shift, over time and weekends/holidays as required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and quick decisions.
  • Proficient in computer software such as Microsoft office and transportation management systems.
  • Knowledge of geography and routes/reading maps.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift objects of various dimensions up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to repeatedly climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects.
  • Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Ability to repeatedly reach, squat and tolerate prolonged sitting.
  • Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces.
